Why go Digital?

There are many reasons to go digital:

Speed of finding tracks

There's nothing better than typing in a couple letters and having a list of matching songs pop up in front of you. We remember wading through the LP cases and CD cases looking for what we needed. It's been years since we've done that, and we don't miss it at all! Having to shuffle everything around when you get a new CD so that it's still in whatever order you wanted, is now history.

Less Lugging of equipment

My personal favorite reason to go digital. When I first started DJ'ing way back when the world was new, I built a coffin (case) for my turntables. It was made of 3/4" plywood, covered with carpet, and weighed a ton. It got a little better with CD players, but still bulky and unwieldy. Now, you can carry a laptop, an iPod or DVD player as backup, and no more cases and cases of LP's or CDs.

No more scratched CDs

When I get a new CD, it's ripped into MP3 format, put back in it's case, and collects dust from then on. If I need it to re-rip again, or just play it, it's still in mint condition.

Less failure rate

I've had more CD players fail on me, then I've had computers fail on me. I've yet to have a computer fail on me during a performance (knock on wood), in over six years of being a digital DJ.

Cost

It's now cheaper to DJ off a computer, than it is to buy the hardware we once used. Desktop, laptop and rack computer prices are lower than dedicated hardware solutions are.

Track Lists

Remember typing in all the tracks in your library into a list in some program so you could print a copy for the audience or a potential client? Those days are long gone now.
